March, 7, 2013, Katy, TX- They say the eyes are the mirror to the soul, and an essential element to human communication. They eyes convey a range of emotions all the way from love to anger. Since we tend to use our eyes a great deal and focus on them they happen to be an area of the face that can quickly give away our ages.

Beginning in our late thirties and early forties fine lines, what we refer to as crows feet, begin to develop around the eyes. And depending on a persons genetics crows feet can develop early making a person look much older than they really feel.

Aside from crows feet, older men and when may also notice that they have excess skin on their upper eyelids, bags or dark circles under the eyes, or drooping lower lids. Wrinkles and bags can make a person look tired and worn out, this may not be how they feel, but can give others that impression.

Since the eyes are so expressive and quickly give away a persons age, eyelifts, known as blepharoplasty, are one of the five most common cosmetic surgeries American men and women undergo according to the American Society of Plastic Surgery. While some procedures, namely body contouring, declined in 2012, statistics from the ASAP, eyelifts increased by 4 percent.

Blepharoplasty in surgery so patients thinking about having this surgery should be aware of what the surgery and subsequent recovery entails.

An eyelift requires anesthesia but depending of the extensiveness of the procedure a patient can chose from intravenous sedation or general anesthesia, but its important to ask your facial cosmetic surgeon which will be the best option for you.

While this surgery requires incisions to remove excessive skin or fatty deposits, plastic surgeons make the incision in the natural contours so that once the healing process is complete there are no noticeable scars.

An eyelift patient may experience some discomfort following the procedure which can include blurry vision, mostly caused by the post-operative ointment plastic surgeons use. This will clear up quickly and shouldnt cause any long-term problems.

Puffiness, mild pain and discomfort may last up to week to 10 days following the procedure and patients will need to take this time off of work, so this should be taken into consideration when planning their eyelift.

Doctors say that some patients may find it hard to sleep following the procedure and they recommend that a patient sleep with their heads elevated to reduce swelling.

A patient can wear their eyeglasses immediately following the surgery but should refrain from wearing contact lenses for at least 14 days. Wearing eye make should be avoided for at least week after surgery.

After aneye lift patients should avoid strenuous activity for at least three weeks following the surgery that includes contact sports. Reading and watching television will be possible a few days after the procedure.

Though there will be some discomfort after the procedure, looking younger and less tired will make the procedure well worth it. If you are thinking about aneye lift schedule a consultation with Katy face doctor Dr. John P. Freeman to discuss the procedure and share with you his successful results.
